# What's ETH 2.0?

[**ETH 2.0**](https://ethereum.org/en/eth2/) is the upgraded version of the Ethereum Chain that supports Proof of Stake (PoS) and sharding. The update will take effect in three phases, the timeline for which is as follows:

* Phase 1: Beacon chain - *1st December 2020*
* Phase 2: Sharding - *2022*
* Phase 3: Docking - *2022*
